Official Opening of Newly Refurbished Monaghan Youthreach Centre
In July 2009 work commenced on a major building project at the centre in Knockaconny and in October the newly designed, purpose-built state of the art facility was ready for use. The centre now contains an extended new kitchen of the highest standard and a fully equipped workshop as well as spacious light-filled classrooms which are a pleasure to work in for both staff and learners.
• On March 15th 2010 the newly refurbished Monaghan Youthrach Centre was officially opened by Mr. Sean Haughey, T.D. Minister for State at the Department of Education and Science. After the official unveiling of the plaque by the Minister a presentation took place for invited guests. Speakers included Niall Mc Cann, Centre Manager, Owen Bannigan, Chairperson of Co. Monaghan VEC, Martin G. O’ Brien, C.E.O. of Co. Monaghan VEC. Staff Members Fiona Mc Caffrey, Kathlena Slowey and Ann Mulligan introduced 6 learners who outlined what their accomplishments have been on the programme and what they hope to achieve in the future. The event finished with a speech from the Minister who congratulated all concerned.
Also in attendance Bishop of Clogher Dr. Joseph Duffy, Monaghan TDs Seymour Crawford, Margaret Conlon and Caoimhghin O Caolain, Senator Francie O’ Brien, Co. Mayor Heather Humphreys and Cathaoirleach of Monaghan Town Council Sean Conlon. A number of other public representatives; members, senior administrators and staff of the VEC and representatives of the Monaghan Chamber of Commerce were also present. National Youthreach Co-ordinator Dermot Stokes was among a number of leading education officials present. Guests also included parents of learners. This event was a huge success and marks the beginning of many happy and fulfilling years in Monaghan Youthreach.
