Enrolment Procedures
In January prior to the forthcoming academic year, contact is made with prospective students to First Year through visits to their schools. This is done primarily through the three all-Irish primary schools in the county. Parents are invited into the school for an Introductory Meeting, which usually takes place at the end of January. The first meeting will take place in Carrickmacross in November of the previous year Later in February an Open Night is held for parents and prospective students. Students may enrol on that night or for a reasonable period after this meeting.
Assessment
Students who have enrolled sit assessment tests in May. During September 1st Year students will be given the opportunity to sample all of the optional subjects before finalising their choices.
Enrolment Criteria
Enrolment will be accepted on the assumption that the school's Admissions Policy, Irish Language Policy and Code of Behaviour are accepted in full. Decisions made in relation to admissions are made by the Board of Management in accordance with school policy. Under the rules outlined by the Department of Education and Science secondary school students must be aged at least twelve years on the 1st of January in the calendar year following their entry into First Year.
Students must speak Irish only at school, in the playground, at lunchtime, on the school bus, at all extra curricular activities or on any other occasions when representing the school. Irish is the only medium of communication in the school between students and students, between teachers and teachers and between students and teachers. This is the cornerstone of our philosophy.
Transfer Criteria
Students may transfer to Coláiste Oiriall subject to:
- Acceptance of Admissions Policy, Irish Language Policy and Code Of Behaviour
- Satisfactory standard of spoken and written Irish.
- Availability of space and Programme/Subject choices
- There are sound educational reasons for the transfer
- The B.O.M. regards the move as being in the best educational interests of the student and would not be harmful to an existing student or students.
Students transferring into 5th Year must have completed 4th Year (Transition Year) unless there are exceptional circumstances.
