TRANSITION YEAR PROGRAMME
The Transition Year Programme in Castleblayney College has been running for 14 years and is recognised by the Department of Education and Science as one of the most progressive T.Y. Programmes in the country.
The Programme is optional but most students participate, seeing the obvious benefits of a course which focuses on personal development, work experience, career explorations as well as maintaining contact with the core subjects which students will sit for Leaving Certificate. Emphasis is also put on the development of social skills and community involvement.
Students are also encouraged to take part in Gaisce (The President's Award).
Certification is awarded at the end of the programme.
Subjects: Students in T.Y. take Irish, English, Maths, Computers, Careers, P.E. and R.E. as core subjects. In addition, they are given the opportunity to sample subjects, which can assist them in their subject choice for Leaving Certificate. Other options include Mini Company Administration and Production, Home Economics, Drama, Art, Tourism, French, Spanish, Film Studies, Social Education, Catering Studies, Beauty Therapy, Car Maintenance and Welding.
The Programme Co-ordinator is Mr P.J. Lambe.
