TRANSITION YEAR PROGRAMME
AIMS OF TRANSITIONAL YEAR
Transition Year offers a unique opportunity to each student to develop in a number of important areas:-
PERSONAL:
To develop personality and character towards a more positive and self confident image.
STUDY:
To develop independent work and study habits appropriate to senior cycle.
CAREER:
To become familiar with workplaces outside school and possible career paths.
SOCIAL:
To become more informed about society and the local community and to become more skilled at dealing with people. The students take responsibility for their own learning and participate in the opportunities offered through transition year in community activities and the workplace. The staff are dedicated to helping the students gain the maximum benefit from their talents and expertise.
SUBJECTS:
Students in TY take Irish, English, Computers and Maths as Core Subjects. Students are given the opportunity to sample subjects which can assist them in their subject choice in 5th year. Guest speakers are invited to speak to students, on issues such as career paths, health matters. Mock interviews and CV preparation are arranged for TY students
WORK EXPERIENCE:
Students participate in work placement three times in the school year. During this time, they will experience the workplace. This may assist in choosing their own career path.
