Information about Co Monaghan VEC
Co. Monaghan VEC is a local statutory, education and training authority established under the 1930 Vocational Education Act. The Committee's headquarters are in Monaghan town, in the Irish Border Region.
The VEC is involved in education provision for second level, and mature students, further education, vocational training, adult education, outdoor education and special education for early school leavers.
The following are the responsibilities of the VEC:

Managing 6 VEC schools in the county - Beech Hill College, Monaghan; Largy College, Clones; Inver College, Carrickmacross; Castleblayney College, Castleblayney; Ballybay Community College, Ballybay and Coláiste Oiriall, Monaghan.

VEC schools offer Junior Certificate, Leaving Certificate, Vocational Preparation and Training Courses and Transition Year Option to 2,500 day time students.

Appointment of teaching staff - 250+ whole-time, plus over 300 part-time teachers.

Development of school buildings.

Provision of Post Leaving Certificate (PLC) courses for over 200 students at Monaghan Institute of Further Education and Training (MIFET)

Adult education guidance and information service.

IT Training - countywide, to individuals, business and commerce

School Transport Service - for all schools of Co Monaghan.

Administration and processing of third level scholarships and PLC grants.

Involvement in EU funded programmes, on a cross-border basis as well as locally, nationally and internationally.

Provision of outdoor education at our centre in Tanagh, Rockcorry, Co Monaghan

Provision of the Youthreach programme (3 Centres) for early school leavers and the VTOS programme for the long-term unemployed.

Arts Education - The Garage Theatre and The School of Music and Youth Theatre
